Anger / Aggression

Repeatedly throwing tantrums or engaging in destructive behaviors (including hurting other children or adults). Out-of-control anger often indicates an underlying issue, such as family conflict, trauma, ADHD or Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

While no one source tracks prevalence of excessive anger among children, a recent Harvard study (2012) found that nearly two-thirds of U.S. teens have been angry enough to threaten or engage in violence and destroy property and that one in 12 teens experience persistent uncontrollable anger attacks. Family conflict also is widespread.

Often, children will be sent home or disciplined at child care, pre-school or school for acting out. When they and you have trouble reigning in their anger, you may need extra assistance.
