OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
Excessively focusing on certain thoughts (obsessions) or constantly acting on impulses (compulsions). These ideas and/or actions are often based on unfounded fears, such as constant handwashing to be free of germs. Children struggling with this disorder may seem anxious and upset most of the time.
Typically occurring in 1-2% of pre-teens.
Because OCD can be connected to thoughts about sex, religion and/or aggression, it may seem as if your pre-teen is simply too caught up in the “wrong things.” Take a closer look.
